Over 31,000 km roads constructed in 3-and-half- years in MP

Bhopal : A total of 31,0 39 km length of roads has been added over last three and half years and there would be a further addition of 26,879 km in next one year in Madhya Pradesh.

Of this, 15,656 km roads have been constructed by Public Works Department from its own sources and 15,383 km under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). These roads have connected 6 thousand 291 villages to main roads which has facilitated smooth and easier movement of people and vehicles to and from these villages. This has also led to acceleration of commercial and development activities in these areas.

According to an official Press release the state government has set a target to construct another 26,879 km roads in next two years which would link 7,832 villages with main roads.

Of this, 14,700 km roads would be constructed by Public Works Department and 12,179 km under PMGSY. The target set by the department is to construct 6800 km roads during 2007-08.

A provision of Rs. 1724 crore has been made this year for construction of roads and bridges and Rs. 500 crore is being mobilized additionally. Similarly, efforts have been started to construct 7,900 km roads at a cost of Rs. 2543 crore during year 2008-09 in the state.
