Ten killed in clashes between religious groups in Pakistan

Islamabad : At least 10 people, including three women and two children, were killed in a clash between rival religious groups in Pakistan’s tribal area bordering Afghanistan, media reports said Monday.

The members of the Namdar and Takia Sunni Muslim groups targeted each other’s positions with rockets and mortar rounds in a firefight that continued for around 10 hours Sunday in the Khyber Agency (district), Dawn newspaper reported.

Five members of the groups died in the exchange of fire, while rockets hit private houses in the area, killing the women and children. Fourteen people suffered injuries.

The groups clashed several times in recent months, killing dozens of each other’s supporters.
