10 lakh compensation demanded for murdered AMU students

Aligarh: The Millat Bedar Muhim Committee (MBMC) of Aligarh have demanded the Uttar Pradesh Government to give a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to each of three AMU students who were murdered on campus this year.

MBMC members met on 23rd September 2007 to discuss the situation on campus. They appealed all teaching and non-teaching staff of the university to contribute a day’s salary to generate a fund for murdered student Mazhar Naeem’s family.

MBMC also demanded an in-depth inquiry in all affairs of the university since 2004 to be headed by a retired Supreme Courte judge.

Three stdudents were killed this year on AMU campus: Mulla Md. Sabit Ali (Orissa) 7-8 April, 2007, Mr. Kausar Salik Mazhar (Bihar) 25th April, 2007 & Mr. Mazhar Naeem (Meerut, U.P.) 16th September.

Meanwhile a meeting of AMU Teachers’ Association held on September 26th, 2007 decided that its members will contribute Rs. 200 each towards fund for the family of Mazhar Naeem. The amount will be deducted from the October salary of each member.

MBMC requested the Vice Chancellor Prof. PK Abdul Azis to constitute a committee of senior students and faculty members to be a link between the students and the administration.
