Rio de Janeiro, Sep 28 (Xinhua) The total earnings of Brazil’s 21 largest football clubs is less than that of Spanish giant Real Madrid, columnist Marcelo Damato said Thursday in a local sports newspaper.
“Real Madrid earned over $555 million last season, while the total earnings of 21 Brazilian clubs was $548 million,” wrote Damato.
Little wonder then that young South Americans dream of playing in Europe and are ready to sign the first contract offered by the trans-Atlantic clubs, observed Damato, adding that Real Madrid’s earnings increased over 10 percent in 2006-07, while Brazilian clubs’ earnings decreased two percent during the same period.
