United Nations : Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said here that insecurity in Iraq would be most damaging to Iran.
The president made the remarks when he was questioned during a press conference after his address to the 62nd UN General Assembly Tuesday, on the US claims on supply of weapons to Iraq by Iran.
Iran and Iraq are two great nations whose friendship and links are historical and widespread, he said voicing Iran’s opposition to insecurity in the neighbouring state.
Tehran is interested in full security and tranquility in Iraq, he said regretting that the occupying forces had accused other nations instead of compensating for their past mistakes.
“Accusing Iran is not a new phenomenon. Whenever the occupying powers face defeat, they accuse others of sending weapons and armaments to Iraq,” he added.
He urged the occupying powers to change their attitude and respect independence and rights of the Iraqi nation.
