Riyadh : The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Abdulraham Al-Attiyah on Friday denounced a non-binding resolution by the US Congress calling for dividing Iraq.
Vague notions for dividing Iraq will add more complications to the Iraqi scene where conditions are already getting worse day after day, Al-Attiyah said in a press statement.
Al-Attiyah emphasized the dire need to look into the reasons that led to the deterioration of conditions in Iraq, heightened by the occupation, the sectarian and ethnic quota system, lawlessness, the paralyzed administration and services, the insurgents, the rampant militias, and the role played by private security firms such as Blackwater.
The GCC Secretary General warned that mere talk about dividing Iraq would beget “grave consequences” not only for Iraq but for “the regional security and stability” on one hand and for international peace on the other.
