Bangalore : Ahead of their proposed power transfer in Karnataka Wednesday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice-president Yashwant Sinha Sunday continued to wait for a meeting with Janata Dal-Secular chief H.D. Deve Gowda, even as the JD-S was set to emerge the biggest gainer in the just-over municipal polls.

Sinha waited for an appointment with Deve Gowda as results from the polls to the 209 civic bodies in the state, held Friday, showed the battle for supremacy was between JD-S and the Congress with the BJP taking the beating And the third place.

Sinha, the senior BJP leader, has been camping here since Friday night for talks with his party’s state leaders and a meeting with Deve Gowda on their proposed power transfer, due on Oct 3.

Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa of the BJP, who hopes to take over as chief minister, was confident that Sinha would be able to meet Deve Gowda later Sunday, though the JD-S leader’s office said no time was fixed for the meeting.

State BJP president D.V. Sadanada Gowda spoke to Deve Gowda over phone Saturday and the latter agreed to meet Sinha Sunday evening, Yediyurappa told reporters here.

“It is 100 percent sure that Sinha will meet Gowda today,” he said.

The BJP central leadership rushed Sinha to Bangalore after Deve Gowda called off talks. The former prime minister was angry over attempt-to-murder charges against his son, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, levelled by B. Sriramulu of BJP.

The BJP made Sriramulu resign as tourism minister in Kumaraswamy’s cabinet Saturday, hoping it will mollify the father-son duo.

While Deve Gowda did not react to Sriramulu’s resignation, Kumaraswamy dismissed it as of no consequence.

Kumaraswamy was upset that the BJP had not acted against or condemned Sriramulu for levelling such grave charges against him.
