Tehran : Iraqi President Jalal Talabani will demand freedom of Iranian businessman Mahmoud Farhadi detained by American troops in Iraq in his meeting with US President George W. Bush on Monday.
The Iraqi Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) envoy in Iran Nazem Dabbagh told IRNA Sunday that a number of Iraqi Kurdish traders have in a letter urged freedom of Farhadi, the official in charge of commercial transactions between Iran’s western Kermanshah province and Iraq.
“Mr. Talabani is to submit the letter to the US President tomorrow,” said Dabbagh.
He said Farhadi’s arrest has left negative impact on Kurdistan region and on living conditions of regional people, provoking Iran’s reaction.
Farhadi along with a trade delegation had travelled to Iraqi Suleymaniya upon an invitation of governor general of Iraqi Kurdistan province on September 17.
The US troops stormed Farhadi’s residence at Palas Hotel overnight on September 19 and kidnapped him.
