Baghdad : The Iraqi Interior Ministry has announced that 215 militants were killed during the past week in clashes that erupted in the southern city of Basra within the framework of the “Charge of the Knights” operation supervised by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki.
According to medical sources, some 109 people were also killed in Sadr city in similar clashes.
Director of the National Centre Command in the Interior Ministry, Major General Abdelkareem Khalaf said Monday that 210 people were killed and 600 others were wounded in Basra during the past week within the framework of the “Charge of the Knights” operation.
In Baghdad, the law imposition command announced Monday that 257 people were killed or arrested during the past 24 hours in Baghdad and its suburbs.
A statement by the command said that the operations also resulted in the death of three militants in the Al-Madaen area south of here and the arrest of 64 wanted elements and 190 suspects in Al-Kazmiya, Al-Mansour, west of Al-Rasheed, Al-Rasafa Al-Markaz, Al-Aathamia, Sadr city and Al-Mahmoudiya.
