New Delhi : The paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), mainly responsible for counter-insurgency operations, will devise new methods to combat terrorism and Maoism in the country, its new director general said Tuesday.
“The force is developing and designing new ways and means to fight Naxals (Maoists),” V.C. Joshi told reporters here.
Joshi, a 1971 batch Indian Police Service officer of Bihar cadre, took the charge from his predecessor S.I.S. Ahmed after he was appointed director general of one of the world’s largest paramilitary forces late Monday.
He would also continue holding the additional charge of director general of Indo-Tibetan Border Police, a paramilitary force deployed along India’s border with the Chinese region.
Joshi, who had crucial assignments in intelligence bureau and headed the division dealing with Jammu and Kashmir for over 16 years, said he would soon visit his officials in Chhattisgarh, one of the states worst hit by the radical Leftwing violence.
The 59-year-old official, however, refused to comment on the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
