Cairo : Failure of dialogue between the Islamic and Western nations has been proven with tangible experiences, according to the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
Ekmeleddin Ihsan Oglu, in an interview with the Egyptian mass ciruclation, “Al-Ahram,” published on Tuesday, cited recurring anti-Islamic publishing of drawings and statements and the controversial remarks about Islam that had been made by the Pope.
He indicated that rapprochement efforts, at the level of dialogue between the two civilizations over the past 40 years, have not resulted in altering notions and concepts among the cultural elite class in Europe, in particular, regarding Islam and Muslims.
Some figures of the camp of radical intellectuals in a number of European countries have maintained wrongful notions and sentiments of disdain regarding Islam, in addition to the recurring assaults on the personality of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) at the pretext of practising freedoms of expression, added the chief of the Islamic organization.
Oglu said he could not understand why some European governments and authorities have remained idle toward such radical and offensive acts and attitudes that breach international norms and the concept of practising freedoms.
The OIC “Islamphobia” Center had been monitoring various reactions and attitudes toward Islam, and submitted a report in this regard to the latest OIC summit.
