New Delhi : Delhi Police plan to move an application in an Indore court to seek transit remand of Safdar Nagori, general secretary of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), to question him about the outlawed Islamist organisation’s activities in the capital.
“We want to know about SIMI activities in the capital and would seek Nagori’s 10-day remand once the Madhya Pradesh police finish their investigations,” a senior police official said here.
“A fresh campaign would be launched in the capital against the organisation after Nagori’s interrogation,” the official added.
Nagori is at present in the Madhya Pradesh police custody till April 11.
Nagori, general secretary of the outfit, managed to evade arrest in September 2001 when Delhi Police officials swooped down on his office in south Delhi’s Zakir Nagar area, soon after the central government banned the organisation.
He and his 12 associates were arrested in March this year with a cache of arms and ammunition in Indore. He has been accused of “publishing and distributing pamphlets inciting Muslims to fight against government”.
