A WTO spokesman said the second round of discussions with Iraq since May 2007 had ended inconclusively at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva.

The talks centred on the conditions needed to allow the opening up of markets for goods and services.

Iraq needed to carry out urgent reforms to its economic system before it could become a full member of the world trading system.

Colombian ambassador Claudia Uribe, who is president of the working group, urged WTO countries to support Iraq in its quest for membership, a process that began in 2004.
