A division bench comprising Justice R.B. Mishra and Justice P.K. Mushahari upheld an order of a lower court sentencing Rambir Singh of Uttar Pradesh, Rajkumar Singh of Haryana and Badmani Mishra of Madhya Pradesh to life imprisonment.

The CRPF troopers opened fire July 8, 1996 at Dharmanagar, 190 km north of the state capital Agartala, after men of the Tripura police prevented them from entering an auditorium to witness a function.

“In the firing, police constable Sukumar Ghosh was shot and the accused troopers even prevented the victim to shift to the hospital resulting in his succumbing to his injuries on the spot,” said Avijit Ghosh, public prosecutor.
