Indian Navy to induct long range patrol aircraft

New Delhi : Indian Navy will induct long range Maritime Patrol Aircraft to enhance its capability.

Indian Naval Staff Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta said negotiations for acquiring the aircraft are in final stages.

Addressing the investiture ceremony at the southern Naval Command in Kochi in Kerala state on Thursday, he said in various shipyards in India 33 ships and six submarines are under construction. The Aircraft Carrier ‘Vikramaditya’ and more ships of the Talwar class are being built in Russia, media reports quoting him said.

He said India’s economic development depends on trade over the seas. In this situation Navy’s responsibilities necessitate the need for the new inductions. India has embarked upon a plan to medernise its armed forces. The latest military hardware worth over $ 30 billion will be purchased in the coming years.
