Islamabad : The Pakistani police arrested eight suspected terrorists in eastern Punjab province, who had been plotting an attack during the general elections, local TV channel reported Saturday.
The terrorists, including the eight arrested, planned to kill former religious affairs minister Ejaz-ul-Haq while he was campaigning for the Feb 18 general elections, the private Geo TV said.
But two suicide attackers were killed when their explosives belt went off accidentally before the suicide attack.
The police also seized 45 kg of explosives in Bahawalnager district of Punjab province. The group’s leader Farooq Rajanpuri was among the arrested.
