Mideast states should improve relations with Asia: Egyptian FM

Sharm El-Sheikh : Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad AbulGheit on Saturday stressed the responsibility of Mideast states to improve relations with Asian countries, and to take advantage of the objectives and goals of the two regions.

The statement came during the second Asia-Middle East Dialogue (AMED) which opened on the same day, with the participation of 48 countries under the theme of “Common Interests and Common Challenges.” In reply to a comment regarding the size of Egypt’s Asian investments compared to that of the United States, Abulgheit said that discussions will not be limited to issues on the financial scale and that Globalisation and the link between the private corporations and government institutions is the key topic. The foreign minister put emphasis on the fact that Asian investments have a lot to offer in the development of the region.

On cultural issues, he said that there is an urge for a better understanding from both parties.

Concluding his statement Abulgheit said that he felt a great understanding between countries in the dialogue and hoped relations would improve between the nations as a result.
