Beirut : Israel has told the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) its army had no hostile intentions behind the planned war games in the north of the Jewish state, UNIFIL spokesperson Yasmina Bouzianne said Friday.
The manoeuvres are mere routine exercises and have no hostile motives; Bouzianne quoted an Israeli message to the UNIFIL as saying.
The UNIFIL in cooperation with the Lebanese army will keep an eye on the war games along the Blue Line, between Lebanon and Israel, she asserted.
The UNIFIL keeps in touch with all concerned parties to prevent any unbecoming actions, she added.
Earlier in the day Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora called on the UNIFIL command in south Lebanon to keep vigilant about the manoeuvres and prevent any breach of Lebanon’s sovereignty by Israel.
