Ankara : Karl-Heinz Feldkamp has resigned as coach of Turkish top club Galatasaray, according to a statement.
The statement, posted on the Istanbul club’s website, cited “differences of opinion” between the German coach and management of the club as the reason for Feldkamp’s resignation.
With just six matches left in the Turkish league, Galatasaray are in second position, two points behind city rivals Fenerbahce.
Feldkamp, 73, was forced to miss a number of matches in recent months for health reasons. The club announced that a team of assistant coaches would take charge for the team’s weekend clash against Ankara side Genclerbirligi and that a replacement for the rest of the season would be announced shortly.

Rummenigge dismisses Kahn protest over Klinsmann
Munich: Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has dismissed criticism from captain Oliver Kahn in connection with the presence of the club’s future coach Juergen Klinsmann at a UEFA Cup match earlier in the week.
“I don’t understand the uproar. The team didn’t know that Klinsmann was in the stadium. So it could not have felt irritated,” Rummenigge told pay-TV network Premiere Saturday.
Kahn told Saturday’s edition of Abendzeitung daily that Klinsmann’s presence at Thursday’s UEFA Cup quarter-final with Spanish side Getafe was “bad style”.

Flamengo criticises high-altitude games
Rio de Janeiro: Football club Flamengo’s president Marcio Braga classified as “absurd” the decision taken by the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) to maintain games held in high-altitude places, which had been banned by world body FIFA from competitions among national teams.
“Conmebol’s decision id absurd,” said the president, who doubted Conmebol’s competence to take such decision, pointing out that the entity does not follow FIFA’s decision. Flamengo will play Peru’s Cienciano in the Libertadores Cup’s second phase Wednesday. The game will be held in Cuzco, in the Peruvian Andes, in an altitude of 3,800 meters above sea level.
