Gaza : The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) on Sunday dismissed a meeting scheduled for Monday between President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, calling it an extra gain for Israel.

The left-wing group said in a leaflet sent to reporters that it opposes holding such a meeting between Abbas and Olmert “amid an ongoing and daily Israeli aggression practiced against the Palestinian people.”

The upcoming meeting between Abbas and Olmert is the first of its kind since the Palestinians decided to halt the peace negotiations with Israel following an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip in early March that left around 130 people killed.

Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat has said that the meeting would tackle ongoing Israeli operations in the West Bank, the closure on the Gaza Strip and easing Israeli blockade imposed on the Palestinians.

“The meeting gives Israel an extra credit amid its military escalation against the Palestinian civilians,” the PFLP said, adding that “Israel neglects meetings and continues its blockade on Gaza and operations in the West Bank.”

The group called on Abbas to immediately stop the negotiations with Israel, adding “the negotiations are only serving Israel in expanding settlements and will give the Palestinians just false promises.”

Since relaunched at the U.S.-hosted Annapolis peace conference in November, the peace talks between the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and the Jewish state, have showed little sign of progress.
