New Delhi : The unseasonal rain continued in many parts of northern plains, at places bringing an extended period of chill and cold and at others joyful smile to the people at the pleasant spell of weather.
The national capital saw the temperature sliding to below the 30-degree Celsius mark, skimming around 28 degrees Celsius. This was a good six degrees Celsius below what is normal for this time of the season. The day’s low was at around 15 degrees Celsius. The capital also received 12.2 mm of rain.
The Met Office in its bulletin Sunday said the northern plains saw temperatures drop 6 to 11 degrees Celsius below what is normal for this time of the year.
Most parts of Punjab and Haryana experienced widespread rain. Met department officials said rainfall occurred over Chandigarh, Ambala, Hissar, Karnal, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Narnaul, Panchkula and Kalka (all in Haryana) and Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Patiala, Mukerian, Ropar and Mohali (all in Punjab).
While Amritsar saw the minimum temperature slip to a chilly 10.8 degrees Celsius, which was six degrees below normal after receiving 25.6 mm of rainfall, Ludhiana experienced a cold night at 12.3 degrees Celsius with 21.4 mm of rain, the Met Office said.
Patiala recorded a low of 14.6 degrees Celsius after being lashed with a rainfall of 4.9 mm.
However, Chandigarh was greeted with a sunshine Sunday after three days of overcast sky as the minimum there settled at 13 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal. The rainfall received here was 18 mm.
The minimum at Rohtak slipped to 13.9 degrees Celsius after 16.7 mm of rainfall, while Shimla experienced the chill as mercury fell by a few degrees to settle at the low of 4.4 degrees Celsius after 18.9 mm of rain.
