New Delhi : The union government has declared April 14, the birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ambedkar, as a holiday, a press communiqué said.
“The central government hereby declares Monday, April 14, as a holiday throughout India on account of the birthday of B.R. Ambedkar,” the statement said.
Ambedkar, known as the father of Indian constitution, is a Dalit icon. He led a mass conversion to Buddhism in the 1950s. He also served as India’s first law minister.
