“We are studying the US officials’ repeated request which was sent to us as an official note to hold new round of talks on Iraq,” Hosseini told his weekly press conference here Monday.

The fourth round of talks between Iranian and US officials on Iraq’s security situation was expected to be held on March 6, but was cancelled at the last minute.

An Iranian delegation arrived in Baghdad on March 5 for the talks but the US side announced it was not well prepared.

The Iraqi government is always represented in the talks.

Iran gives preference to hold talks with the US on Iraq security because of its interest in the stability of the neighbouring state.

The Iranian and US officials have so far held three rounds of talks on the Iraqi situation, on May 28, July 24 and Aug 6, 2007.
