Ranchi : Global steel giant Arcelor Mittal, planning to set up a plant in Jharkhand, will soon launch a technical institute in the state, an official said Tuesday.
“Representatives of Arcelor Mittal met us and expressed their desire to open an ITI (industrial training institute) in the state,” said Welfare Secretary U.K. Sangama.
“Arcelor Mittal will induct the ITI pass-outs in their steel plant,” he said.
The firm, managed by Lakshmi Mittal, has signed a pact with the Jharkhand government to set up a 12 million tonne steel plant with an investment of Rs.400 billion.
It has already secured a coal block in the state and efforts are on to get allocation of iron ore mines. It has identified three possible sites for the plant.
“Arcelor Mittal will open the ITI as part of corporate social responsibility. Fifty percent of the total seats will be filled by the state government and the rest will be filled by the steel company. The 50 percent quota seats will go to tribal students,” said Sangama.
According to officials, the ITI will come up in Khuti district.
