Gaza : The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Tuesday threatened that the tightening of Israeli sanctions on the Hamas-ruled Gaza will backfire on Israel in a wide public reaction by the people.
“The Palestinian people will not keep still before their siege and suffering,” Khalil al-Hayya, a Hamas lawmaker, told a news conference in Gaza city. “All the options in any direction are open for the people to break the siege.”
Al-Hayya added that the Palestinian factions will not stick to ceasefire in Gaza Strip as long as Israel keeps on the blockade on the impoverished territory. “The occupation will not be enjoyed with any calmness and they are held responsible on the siege.”
Israel imposed the closure on Gaza Strip in June when Hamas took over the territory by force after it routed security forces of President Mahmoud Abbas.
On Monday, Palestinian gas stations’ owners announced a strike after Israel also sharply reduced fuel shipments into Gaza.
For Hamas, the suffering of the people because of the siege “was much bitter than the Israeli occupation’s crimes and things can not be endured more.”
Al-Hayya also blamed the Ramallah-based government of Premier Salam Fayyad and said it plays a role in encouraging the Israeli sanctions against Gaza.
