Officers detained the suspected drugs courier on Monday afternoon in his rented apartment in the Kirov district of Yekaterinburg and seized the heroin, the police source said.

A criminal case into the incident has been opened, the police source said.

Much of the heroin sold in Russia is trafficked via Tajikistan. The narcotics trade has become an acute problem for the impoverished Central Asian republic due to a continual flow of illegal drugs from neighboring Afghanistan, the world’s largest supplier of heroin and opium.
