Musharraf shocked over Karachi violence

Islamabad : President Pervez Musharraf expressed shock over the incidents of violence in the port city of Karachi in which precious lives were lost, innocent people injured and property damaged.

Information Minister Sherry Rehman confirmed that 7 persons were killed as violence broke out in Karachi after two rival groups of lawyers clashed on Wednesday.

The President directed the concerned authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure peace and calm, and bring the perpetrators and disruptive elements to justice, an official statement said.

Over 40 vehicles and a ban were burnt during the hours of violence in Karachi, witnesses said.

President Musharraf appealed to the people to cooperate with the law enforcement personnel in ensuring peace and tranquility in the provincial metropolis.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani strongly condemned the incidents of violence in Karachi and appealed to the citizens of Karachi to remain calm and peaceful.
