Chief Justice U. Aung Toe, head of the commission authorised to hold the referendum, said at a meeting held in the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw that all the preparatory work for the referendum has nearly been completed.

Earlier Wednesday, Myanmar formally published a 194-page full text of a constitution draft to be put to the referendum as set and according to officials, the book on the constitution draft has been put on sale at government bookshops.

The constitution was drafted by the government-formed 54-member State Constitution Drafting Commission, also headed by U. Aung, in accordance with the detailed basic principles laid down by the National Convention.

After the constitution is passed, the name of Myanmar will be the Republic of Union of Myanmar.

The draft calls for a multi-party system with the military having greater role in the country’s national politics.
