Agra : A nationwide anaemia eradication programme was launched that will include health camps in all districts and create awareness through public meetings and talks to improve the “deteriorating” health of women has been launched.
An initiative of the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological studies Societies of India (FOGSI), the programme launched Tuesday has the support of various government agencies and NGOs.
The health condition of “our women was deteriorating and called for urgent concerted efforts”, Narendra Malhotra, FOGSI president, told IANS.
He said his organisation would educate doctors, patients and social workers on the problems of anaemia under the theme “Educate, Prevent, and Eradicate”.
A separate action plan to educate schoolgirls would be launched, Malhotra added. Free anaemia eradication camps would be held to treat the girls and advise their parents as well, the doctor explained.
A ‘Bharat Jagruti Yatra’ would be held over four routes covering India to spread awareness and health camps would be conducted in villages under the programme “Chalo Gaon Chalo”, Malhotra said.
Formed in 1936, FOGSI is responsible for various campaigns for the betterment of women and children’s health.
