Chief Commissioner Daniel Bellemare briefed the U.N. Security Council on Tuesday on the report and requested an extension on their mandate that expires on June 15.

“While the preparatory steps for the establishment of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon are continuing, I would request this distinguished Council to consider, “xtending the mandate of this Commission beyond the date of June 15, 2008, ” he said.

“Not only is the investigation objectively very complex, it is also being conducted in a politically charged climate and in an extremely volatile environment,” Bellemare told the Council.
