New Delhi : Delhi traffic police personnel, who were caught on camera in a sting operation, could be arrested, a police official said Thursday.
A case under the anti-corruption act has been registered against 98 traffic policemen.
“We have registered a case against 98 policemen late Wednesday under anti-corruption act after a vigilance probe prima facie found them guilty,” a senior police official said.
No arrest was made till Thursday evening, but the official said corrupt policemen could be arrested.
The 98 policemen – including 11 sub-inspectors, an equal number of assistant sub-inspectors, 10 head constables and 66 constables – were suspended.
Chetan Prakash, a property dealer, had carried out a sting operation last year filming 98 policemen demanding and accepting bribes from Blueline bus drivers at 23 traffic lights across the capital.
He moved the Delhi High Court that directed the home ministry and Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal to look into the matter.
