Telecom firm staff seek BJP activists’ arrest

Raipur : Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) staff Friday held a demonstration and sought arrest of activists of the youth wing of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party who had ransacked their office.

Scores of BSNL Employees Union members went to Jai Stambh chowk and held demonstration for hours, accusing the BJP youth wing cadre of “crossing limits” Thursday by storming into BSNL office at Khamhardih area, assaulting a general manager, and damaging office property.

“After demonstration, we submitted a memorandum to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan highlighting how the BJP cadres crossed limits Thursday,” the employees union said in a statement.

The union members sought immediate arrest of those who ransacked their office and slapping criminal cases against them.

Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), led by its state president Sanjay Srivastava, held a rally at the BSNL office Thursday during which a few youths stormed into the building and ransacked furniture and other belongings of the BSNL.

The slogan-shouting protesters threatened to step up drive against the BSNL for allegedly deliberately blocking BSNL local network to benefit private rivals, black-marketing SIM cards and raising false bills against subscribers.
