The meeting has been scheduled for Lusaka, Zambia, on April 13.

UN spokeswoman Marie Okabe said the Secretary General expressed satisfaction for the mobilization of regional leaders and the coordination of efforts to help Zimbabwe overcome its post-electoral crisis peacefully.

However, she conveyed Ban’s concern for a potential worsening of the situation if actions are not taken to solve the current impasse.

Secretary General of the opposition MDC (Movement for Democratic Change, Tendai Biti, announced today that the group will refuse to take part in an eventual second round of the presidential polls.

They are demanding an immediate release of results of presidential elections of March 29.

According to MDC, their leader Morgan Tsvangirai won by 50.3 percent of the votes.

However, the governing ZANU-PF (Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front) demanded a re-count of the votes, claiming that elections were rigged to favor Tsvangirai.

The Electoral Commission has only released the results of the elections for the National Assembly and the Senate so far.
