New Delhi : The mercury continued its upward trend Friday in northern India with the temperature in the national capital breaching the 35-degree mark and signalling the arrival of warmer days in the region.
Delhi had a sunny and warm day as the maximum temperature was at 36.1 degrees Celsius. The day’s low was 23.3 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal.
Most parts of the northern plains had temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius. In some parts of Orissa the maximum temperature has already climbed up to 40 degrees Celsius rather early in the summer.
Jharsuguda town in western Orissa, nearly 300 km from the state capital city Bhubaneswar, recorded the highest temperature of 40 degrees Celsius this season Thursday and Friday, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological office told IANS.
Many parts of the state have been witnessing over 36 degree Celsius temperatures over past few days, including Bhubaneswar that recorded 36.9 degrees Celsius and 38.1 degrees Celsius respectively Wednesday and Thursday.
During the next 48 hours, this weather trend will continue in most parts of the state, the Met Office said.
Most parts of the country remained dry Friday, except parts of southern peninsula. The southern city of Thiruvananthapuram recorded 30.4 mm of rain. The Met Office has forecast that extreme southern peninsula may receive more rain in the next three-four days from Friday.
