At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on topics such as Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, upcoming Shanghai group 5+1 meeting, accession of Iran to Shanghai’s Cooperation Organization, dealing with western propaganda to tarnish ties between Tehran and Beijing, expansion of commercial, political, cultural and media cooperation mainly between IRNA and Xinhua.

Tightening economic sanctions or exerting more pressure does not help resolve Iran’s nuclear program but instead will further complicate the issue, said the Chinese ambassador.

Iran’s nuclear case should be resolved through talks, he underlined.

He expressed the hope that Shanghai’s meeting would help resolve Iran’s nuclear case by diplomatic means.

The US and Britain had decided to prepare grounds for economic sanctions against Iran which was rejected by Russia and China, he said.

He expressed the hope that mutual cooperation between Iran and IAEA would be boosted more than ever.

Iran and China have broadened economic cooperation in various fields and are determined to further expand it, he said.

Both Iran and China are opposed to uni-polar world and call for constructive role of the United Nations in dealing with global developments, he said.

The two sides also discussed holding Olympics Games and the Chinese ambassador extended an invitation letter to IRNA chief on behalf of the head of Xinhua inviting him to pay a visit to China and underlined that it would be much better if the visit could take place during the Olympic Games.

Thanking the Chinese ambassador for the invitation letter, Fayyazi said “I would like to visit China when the new cooperation agreement between the two news agencies have been drawn up and if it coincides with the Olympic Games I would welcome it.”
