Power woes at Green Park

The organisers of the ongoing Test match at the Green Park Stadium were a worried lot Saturday after power was disrupted in the pavilion for a few minutes. The pavilion houses the Match Referee and the TV umpire’s cabin.

Although there were many generators at the stadium, almost all were on the opposite side of the pavilion to provide supply to the press box and the television commentators.

Till the previous international match here, the ICC referee and the TV umpire used to sit next to the TV commentators’ room. But for this match, Roshan Mahanama decided to sit in the pavilion building so that he could “communicate better” with the other match officials and also players, said an official.

Uttar Pradesh’s most prestigious

Gaur Hari Singhania Challenger Trophy will be Uttar Pradesh’s richest tournament as the prize money has been increased from Rs.50,000 to Rs.500,000, Jyoti Bajpai, an Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) director and former cricket board treasurer, said.

The state one-day tournament is held just before the cricket board’s inter-zonal tournament, which was renamed this season as the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Organised jointly by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and the Jagat Narain Tiwari Organisation (JNTO), the tournament is also significant for the Uttar Pradesh players as the state team is selected on the basis of performance in this competition.
