Islamabad : China’s President Hu Jintao and Pakistan’s Pervez Musharraf agreed to increase bilateral cooperation in defense, energy and trade, The Post daily said on Sunday.
In the two rounds of talks held in Sanya, the capital of southern Hainan, a Chinese province, both presidents expressed their hope that the links will be strengthened with assumption of power of Islamabad’s new government.
They presided over the signing of two memorandums of understanding and one cooperation agreement on water management, hydroelectric generation, sports, culture, engineering, and science and technology.
Musharraf travelled to China for a six-day visit to attend the Boao Forum for Asia and exchange views with Chinese authorities on bilateral and international issues.
According to The Post, Hu Hintao reiterated that Beijing will always support Pakistan in its defense and security to secure social progress and economic development.
Trade exchange between the two countries amounts to $6.80 billion, and it is expected to reach $15 billion in line with a free trade agreement signed in 2006.
