India to withdraw concessions to Pakistan under Safta

New Delhi : Indian Commerce Minister Kamal Nath has said that India may be compelled to withdraw concessions to Pakistan given under South Asia Free Trade Agreement (Safta) if Pakistan fails to reciprocate.

However, he hoped the new government in Pakistan will resolve this issue soon.

Talking to mediaperons here on the sidelines of a function here, he said India provided a series of concessions to Pakistan under Safta but Pakistan has not given concessions to India. “We are looking at the situation,” he said.

Pakistan has taken more time on the issue and if it does not take a decision on it, India may be compelled to withdraw the concessions from the neighbouring country.

“We are hopeful. Last six to eight months, there has been inactivity on this front. We understand. But we are hoping, in the next couple of months, to resolve this, “media reports quoting him said.

India has asked Pakistan to expand the positive list, otherwise New Delhi will have to act, he warned.
