The 35-year-old man named Sami Khatab was found dead near the former Jewish settlement of Nitzarim south of Gaza City with signs of torture all over his body, his family told the press, adding that the body was taken for autopsy.

A Hamas police force stormed Khatab’s house on Monday in the town of Deir el-Ballah in central Gaza Strip and arrested him, his family said.

Khatab had been arrested twice by Hamas forces in the past few months.

Comments by Hamas security forces on the death of Khatab were not immediately available.

Following weeks of fighting with rival Fatah movement, Hamas movement took control of the Gaza Strip by force last June and routed President Abbas’ security forces from the enclave.

Fatah movement’s officials earlier said at least 90 Fatah activists and leaders are still imprisoned by Hamas movement in its jails in Gaza.
