Niamey : The International Seminar on Study of Islamic and Religious Sciences Development will begin in Niamey, capital of Niger, on May 12. A galaxy of Muslim scholars, academics, officials of Islamic organizations, directors of educational institutes and experts of education affairs from various Muslim countries will participate in the two-day event, to be organized by the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL). Dr. Abdullah Al Turki, secretary general of MWL, will chair the seminar.
The seminar will feature four major axes: The fist one includes ‘growth of new sciences and its horizons in Western Africa’, ‘establishment of scientific movement in the region’, ‘role of educational centers in encouraging memorization of the Holy Quran’, and ‘political and cultural features of the centers’. The second one refers to the ‘study of educational institutes and their objectives in Western African countries’ with the aim of exploring the educational method of the institutes and impediments in the way of their development.
Participants of the seminar will also survey ‘academic education in Western Africa’ as the third axis of discussions, which will study characteristics of academic education and its goals, Islamic universities and their role in development of Niger, principles of higher education and its expansion as well as Islamic sciences and Arabic language at universities in western Africa. The fourth axis will study ‘method of education in academic centers of Western Africa and their regulations, administrative organizations and educational staff’.
