Families of killed school kids receive compensation

Gandhinagar : The family members of the 41 school children, who were killed after the bus they were travelling in fell into a canal in Bodeli in Vadodara district of Gujarat, were handed over compensation cheques Thursday.

Gujarat Education Minister Ramanbhai Vora, Tribal Development Minister Mangubhai Patel and Minister of State for Tribal Development Jaswantsinh Bhabhor Thursday met the families of the 41 children who died in the bus mishap.

They also met the families of the driver and conductor and a middle-aged woman, who too were killed in the accident.

Cheques worth Rs.9.5 million were disbursed. This includes Rs.100,000 ex-gratia and Rs.50,000 insurance amount plus Rs.2,500 that was announced towards funeral expenses.

The ministerial team first visited various parts of Bamroli villages from where most of the school children came. The team also visited Salpura, Samghi, Patan, Garol, Totarmata and Ratanpurtana.

Vora said that for those who did not have a bank account, the talathis have been asked to open one for them and also offer any guidance the bereaved families might need.
