India, Pak police officials discuss counter-terror measures at Islamabad meeting

By KUNA,

New Delhi : Top police officials from India and Pakistan are meeting at Islamabad to deliberate measures in combating cross-border terrorism and criminal activities. India’s Intelligence Bureau chief P C Halder is visiting Islamabad to attend a South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) conference on police matters, beginning Friday. During his visit, he would also meet Pakistan’s top police officials to discuss strengthening of intelligence sharing mechanism between India and Pakistan on terror and related issues, a source in the Indian Home Ministry told reporters here Thursday. India and Pakistan had established a Joint Anti-terror mechanism. However, no significant progress was made owing to political turmoil in Pakistan last year. New Delhi holds terror groups-based in Pakistan and Inter-Services Intelligence responsible for attacks across India. “It will be the first high level interaction between India and Pakistan after a new elected government was installed at Islamabad,” the source added.
