He said that 74 missing Indian defence personnel, including 54 since 1971, were also believed to be in Pakistani jails.

The minister said India had consistently taken up the issue with Pakistan at the highest level.

It expects the government of Pakistan to implement the recommendations of the Pak-India Judicial Committee to release and provide consular access to all detained fishermen and prisoners, Mukherjee said.

He said without consular access to fishermen and other prisoners, it was not possible to determine the details of sentences awarded to Indian prisoners.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has sought details of more than five hundred Pakistanis languishing in Indian jails but there is no response from the Indian side yet, sources said.
