Ghei best Indian at Volvo China Open golf

Beijing : Gaurav Ghei was the best among the Indians, finishing tied 28th, at the Volvo China Open golf here at the CBD International golf course Sunday.

Ghei shot 75 in the final round Sunday finished with a total score of seven-over 295. He was 17-strokes adrift of the eventual winner, Ireland’s Damien McGrane.

Ghei (76, 69, 75, 75) climbed from overnight tied 44th to tied 28th after returning his second consecutive 75 Sunday.

The Delhi golfer sank birdies on the third and 10th and dropped bogeys on the second, fifth, 14th, 17th and 18th hole.

Among other Indians in the field, Gaganjeet Bhullar (69, 75, 73, 81) finished tied 44th at ten-over 298, while S.S.P. Chowrasia (74, 73, 76, 81) ended up in tied 63rd place with a total of sixteen-over 304.

McGrane, with ten-under 278, battled through torrential rains to claim his much-awaited maiden title by a massive nine strokes ahead his nearest competitors Englishmen Simon Griffiths, Oliver Wilson and Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera, who all were on one-under 287.
