Baghdad : Gunmen Sunday held up a minivan and abducted six people near the northern Iraqi city of Baquba, the provincial police said.
The vehicle was carrying eight university students, three of who were women. The gunmen released the three women and took five students and the driver to unknown location.
“A group of armed men set up a fake checkpoint in the Saisaban area, some 15 km south of Baquba, and stopped a minibus carrying eight students from Baquba University, including three females, ” a police officer told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The gunmen also tried to stop a truck and a civilian car, but the vehicles overturned after the gunmen opened fire at them. The drivers managed to flee the scene, the source said.
Three people were wounded when the gunmen opened fire at the speeding vehicles. They were later taken to a hospital, he said.
