However, India have already qualified for the World Group final to be held in the Czech Republic in August by this semi-final appearance at a regional competition, according to information received here.

Other teams who will accompany India to the World Group final from the Asia-Oceania region are China, Korea and Australia.

In the first singles Friday, Digvijay Singh Mehta lost to Chinese Zhao Cai 4-6, 4-6. Ronit Bisht then levelled the scores for India beating Xin Gao 6-3, 6-1 in the second singles.

However, the duo of Digvijay and Ronit later lost their doubles match 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to Gao and Jun Nan Tao to hand over the tie to China.

Incidentally, with this loss India messed up their chances of getting seeded at the World Group which would have ensured them a favourable draw.
