Kolkata : The West Bengal government Monday constituted a three-member committee to probe power breakdown at the Eden Gardens here during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers Sunday.
Two of the floodlights went off in the second innings and the play was halted for about 25 minutes. The committee would also look into complaints of inadequate drinking water facility inside the stadium.
Announcing the decision, state Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty said the committee would look into the reasons for the mismanagement and submit its report before April 29, the date for the second match at the ground.
He directly held the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) responsible and said that after studying the report, the government would suggest measures.
“I think such lapses occurred because of their inexperience. The CAB did not even coordinate with the state government, which could have made the arrangement foolproof. The lapses should be rectified before April 29 otherwise the second match in the Eden Gardens could be deferred,” Chakraborty told reporters here.
The minister informed that the committee would comprise an official each from the sports, public works and the police departments.
The pitch at the Eden Gardens, that was a dustbowl, also came in for heavy criticism from both the teams.
