Accompanying Munde are son Dhananjay and niece Poonam Rao, who heads the youth wing of the party in Maharashtra and is the daughter of the late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan.

He had earlier sent his emissaries, party leaders Eknath Khads and Pandurang Fundkar, to talk to the central leadership on his behalf. He agreed to come to the party headquarters personally in deference to a request from former deputy prime minister L.K. Advani.

“I will remain with the BJP and will discuss the matter with my party leaders and do whatever is best,” Munde said in Mumbai before his arrival here.

He had resigned from all his party posts over the weekend, sparking a crisis in the party.

Munde is reportedly miffed at the appointment of Madhu Chavan as the head of party’s Mumbai unit.

Chavan is considered close to Maharashtra BJP president Nitin Gadkari. Relations between Munde and Gadkari have been strained for some time.
