Solana: Responsibility of solving problem belongs to Afghans

Kabul : Visiting chief of the European Union (EU) Javier Solala emphasized here that Afghans have the responsibility to solve their own problem.

“Still the challenge is in front of your country. As I said that the ownership of solving problem belongs to the people of Afghanistan, to the leaders of Afghanistan,” he said at a joint press conference with President Hamid Karzai on Monday.

He said that the security and good governance are fundamental for development in the war-torn country.

He also expressed satisfaction over progress the country has made over the past six years but added, “of course much is needed to be done.”

Solana who is on a one-day tour to Afghanistan, repeated EU’s continued support for the rebuilding process of the country, saying “we would continue to helping the people of Afghanistan to get stability, prosperity and peace.”

“I can tell you on behalf of European Union that all the people of European Union, all the countries of European Union will continue to be working with the government, with the people of Afghanistan for long-term,” he noted.

Earlier on Monday, he exchanged views with Karzai on the issues of mutual concern including security situation in Afghanistan and the upcoming donor nations conference to be held in Paris.
