IPL Orange Cap to separate best from the rest

New Delhi : Watch out for the Orange cap when you see the next Indian Premier League encounter.

The Orange Cap will be awarded to the batsman with the highest aggregate and will be worn on the field. As of now Brendon McCullum of Kolkata Night Raiders is wearing it with Mike Hussey, Matthew Hayden and Virender Sehwag looking good to forge ahead and claim the cap.

IPL’s prestigious Orange cap is on the lines of Tour de France Yellow jersey. The cap is currently resting pretty on McCullum’s head after his fiery 158 against Royal Challengers in the opening match gave him a runaway start in the tournament.

The cap is traditional in style and will stand out from any other headgear. At the end of the season, the holder of the ‘Orange Cap’ will win the honour of being called the ‘Winner of Orange Cap 2008′ and will rewarded atthe Grand Finals in Mumbai June 1.

McCullum is closely followed by Chennai Super Kings’ Hussey, who is the second century-maker of the tournament. Delhi Daredevils captain Sehwag and Chennai Super Kings opener Hayden are tied at number three.

Sehwag catapulted to third position after hitting an explosive 94 against Deccan Chargers, while Hayden scored a blistering 81 off 46 balls against the Mumbai Indians.

“The DLF Indian Premier League will create a distinction for the best performing batsman,” Lalit Modi, IPL Chairman and Commissioner said.

With a host of powerful hitters waiting to outgun each other, the Orange Cap contest in going to get more exciting.
